A unique ergometer for exercise during MRI
The MR ergometer Pedal is specifically designed for exercising, inducing stress during MRI examinations. In many diseases, symptoms will only occur during stress, therefore a dynamic evaluation is required. Using an MR ergometer is the most natural form of exercise and triggering stress response during MR examinations.

- University Hospital Rennes, France
- Silesian Heart Disease Center / SCCS, Poland
Users value the possibility to measure work and having the ability to adjust the resistance during exercise
Clinical and Research applications
A stress MRI is a tool for both Clinical and the Research purposes. During an at rest MRI scan medical professionals see images, these, however do not reflect on the complete situation of a patient or test person. In order to evaluate some conditions, a increased heart rate has to be applied to these images in the case of MRI, this is called a Dynamic/Exercise MRI. The goal of the MR Ergometer is for the patients to get a higher heart rate by exercising while being in the MRI.
Clinical
Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is widely accepted for cardiac imaging. The main benefit of MRI over other techniques is that it gives the most accurate information on various features of the heart. The three main clinical applications are cardiology (heart pathology), angiology and sports medicine (training, prevention and evolution).
Research
For scientific research, the use of MRI for the heart (or CMR) is increasingly popular. The Lode MR ergometer is also used in various research fields, like
- Heart and cardiovascular system
- Cardiopulmonary system
- Neurology
- Musculoskeletal
- Metabolism
Compatible with MR scanners of renowned brands
The Lode MR ergometer can be used in combination with MR scanners with various bores and of various brands like GE, Philips, Siemens, United Imaging.
MR Conditional
Lode MR ergometers are MR conditional. This means that under certain conditions, the ergometer can be used safely with MR ergometers up till 3 Tesla without artifacts being visible on the image.
Versatile solutions for seated and supine positions
The Angio Imaging system presents a versatile solution in the form of an ergometer, adeptly accommodating both sitting and supine ergometry procedures. This flexibility caters to the diverse needs of medical professionals, enabling seamless transitions between different patient positions.
Ergometry for radiology settings
The Angio system functions seamlessly across a workload range of 7 to 1000 watts, guaranteeing consistent performance regardless of intensity. Additionally, the Angio imaging unit comes equipped with a communication module, ensuring effortless compatibility with a wide array of stress ECG and pulmonary devices globally recognized.
User-friendly display
The Angio Imaging solution has an 7-inch colour display that serves as a central hub for real-time monitoring, workload adjustments and data visualization. This high-resolution screen provides medical professionals with immediate access to critical parameters, including workload, revolutions per minute (rpm), and time. The vibrant display ensures clarity and ease of interpretation, enhancing the efficiency of procedures and allowing practitioners to make informed decisions promptly.
Features
Exercise instead of medicine
When a test subject is able to do exercise, it is always recommended above pharmacologic stress. It allows objective measurement in either level of cardiac conditioning and/or level of cardiac work. The patient achieves his/her maximum heart rate from exercise, it can be stopped at any moment with no risk of prolonged side effects. It is safe and perfectly reproducible.
Better control of maximum heartrate through watt control
By using the innovative Lode Ergometry Manager Software, the radiologist/cardiologist can control the intensity of the exercise and make changes to decrease discomfort and achieve test goal, which is maximum heart rate (85%) and acquire images in a timely and safe manner.
MR conditional
Lode MR ergometers are MR conditional. This means that under certain conditions, the ergometer can be used safely with MR ergometers up till 3 Tesla without artifacts being visible on the image.
Tesla independant
The choice of materials and the special design makes that the Lode MRI ergometer is useable for various Tesla MRIs.
Small adjustment steps
The workload of the Lode ergometers is adjustable in steps of only 1 watt. Depending on your wishes, the test operator or the test subject can adjust the workload. The steps of 1 watt are possible in the manual mode as well as within protocols.
Suitable for various brands and types of MRI scanner
The Lode MR ergometer can be used in combination with MR scanners with various bores and of various brands like GE, Philips, Siemens, United Imaging.
Accurate over a long period of time
The Lode ergometers are supplied with an electro-magnetic braking mechanism of Lanooy (eddy current). The biggest advantage of this braking system compared to a friction braking system is the absolute accuracy and the accuracy over time. Moreover, friction braking systems have more wearing parts.
Worldwide installed base of renowned institutes and users
For more than 20 years, Lode has developed an MR compatible ergometer that has found its way to several hospitals and institutions worldwide.
Scientific publications
The Lode MR ergometer has been used in over 50 research topics, in a.o the Journal of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, Physiological Measurements, Journal of computer assisted tomography and Circ Cardiovasc Imaging.
