Exposure to radioactive materials and radiation producing equipment can be life-threatening. Small doses can damage the DNA in our cells, and high doses can cause Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS), Cutaneous Radiation Injuries (CRI) and cancer later in life.

Exposure to radioactive materials and radiation producing equipment can be life-threatening. Small doses can damage the DNA in our cells, and high doses can cause Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS), Cutaneous Radiation Injuries (CRI) and cancer later in life.

According to NSW legislation (which is similar across all states and territories), any premises in or on regulated radiation materials must have a warning sign or danger sign clearly displayed in the immediate vicinity of the materials. Corporations can receive a maximum penalty of 100 units (50 units in any other case).

With this in mind, it is critically important to follow the requirements and safety standards set out by state and federal governments and policy bodies like Safe Work Australia.
